“Anxiety is something that is part of me, but it’s not who I am.”

The Waves of Anxiety
You’re at work when you hear footsteps behind you. You keep your head down and continue working. You recognize those footsteps, the pace, and the sound of the voice as they say your name. You’ve been dreading this interaction all morning. You don’t want to talk to this person. They are too happy, too bubbly, too unaware of their surroundings.
In this moment, your mind is thinking of a million ways that you could mess up this conversation. You know your track record speaks for itself. You’ve lost friends because of the “nonsense” you’ve blurted out before.
At some point you made the decision that it was better to not say anything at all. You decide that you would rather be known as the quiet person instead of the person that’s constantly putting their foot in their mouth.
This method works for you until you have to go to grocery store, talk to your kid’s teacher, call the electric company, go to a work event, or give a speech at your sibling’s wedding.
Maybe it’s time to confront it. Maybe, you think, it’s okay to talk about it and find out what the root of your anxiety is.
Your Heart Can’t Stop Racing
It's not just the thoughts. It's the racing heart, the tightness in your muscles, the uneasy feeling in the pit of your stomach when you step into a crowded room, or the sensation that your mind is spinning out of control.
